Shearing and Sweat Sheds

The two sheds below are both used in the wool gathering process. The large shed at left is the shearing shed. It is still used for that purpose today. The smaller shed at right had been identified as the "drying shed" but in further interviews with former ranch hands and herders, it has been found to be the "Sweat Shed". Sheep were kept in here in the heat of the day prior to shearing. This caused more lanolin to be in the wool and made shearing easier. Carver Ranch Photo.
